Nutrition Specialist & Training Specialist – The Food and Agriculture Organization (30 July 2017)
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations is executing a Technical Assistance (TA) Project (UTF/NEP/073/NEP) to support the implementation of Agriculture and Food Security Project (AFSP) directly implemented by the Ministry of Agricultural Development of the Government of Nepal under grant assistance of Global Agriculture and Food Security Programme (GAFSP) and supervisory support of the World Bank. The project is operational in the 19 districts of hills and mountains of Mid and Far western regions of Nepal. The main objective of the AFSP is to enhance food and nutrition security of targeted beneficiaries primarily through increased productivity of both crop and livestock and promotion of improved dietary intake of diversified diets as well as improved feeding and caring practices of pregnant and nursing women and children up to 2 years of age.
The FAO TA project is seeking applications from competent professionals to fulfill the following vacant positions:
1. Nutrition Specialist – one (Initially 5 months with possibility of 3 months extension) Work station: AFSP Office, Kathmandu with frequent visits to project districts Qualification/experience: Master’s degree in nutrition, public health or any other related field with a minimum of five years of professional work experience in food-based nutrition projects, agriculture or livestock projects with nutritional objectives or public health nutrition projects in the capacity of project management, training, monitoring and supervision. Direct field experience especially of mid and far-western Nepal is highly desirable.
2. Training Specialist – one (Initially 5 months with possibility of 3 months extension) Work station: AFSP Office, Kathmandu with frequent visits to project districts Qualification/experience: Masters’ degree in Agricultural Sciences or in any discipline of social or development studies with seven years of experience in the design of curriculum, training materials and the application of participatory methods of training with working experience in training management, sessions facilitation and institutional networking. Related training and experience in design and implementation of season long ToT, refresher courses to different target groups (farmers, entrepreneurs, field level technicians and technical officers) on agriculture and livestock development in agricultural project and proven experience in design, implementation and facilitation of Farmer Field School (FFS) is compulsory.
3. District Technical Officer (DTO)- Agriculture– one (Initially 5 months with possibility of 3 months extension) Work station:District Agriculture development Office (DADO), Rukum with required field visits Qualification/experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Sciences with minimum one year of experience in Agricultural development projects. Having experience of working with multi-disciplinary team will have an advantage. The candidate should have adequate competence in communication, planning and reporting in English and Nepali languages.
