Purpose of this Consultancy,
The basic purpose of the consultancy is to coordinate with Governments ( Federal, Provinces and Local Governments) and federal, provincial and local health institutions for nutrition in emergency preparedness and response in line with CCC and then documenting the nutrition response activities for best practices and lesson learned under normal and humanitarian response.
Under the direct supervision of Nutrition Specialist of Nutrition section at central level and nutrition /Officer of Field Offices with technical guidance from UNCEF Nutrition team, the consultant will accomplish the following activities and tasks within the stipulated timeline.
Task 1: Support federal government provincial government, Provincial Health Directorate, DHOs, health facilities and local governments to develop the capacity of and mobilize the Health Workers (HWs) and Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs) of various districts of different Provinces vulnerable to disaster to prevent and treat malnourished children , micronutrient deficiencies, support MIYCN.
Task 2: Support in logistics management. Develop delivery report of logistic supplies for humanitarian response (Fortified Super flour, Ready to Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), F-milk, Multi-micronutrient powder, Vitamin A capsule, Deworming medicine, Iron folic acid tablets, MUAC tape, Recording and Reporting forms, IEC/ training materials, Guidelines and Protocol) to health facilities, OTCs, stabilization centers, NRHs and beneficiaries of the nutrition response.
Task 3: Support to federal government, provincial government, local government, DHO/DPHOs and health facilities of emergency prone/affected districts for nutrition in preparedness for response and recovery actions.
Task 4: Support to federal government, provincial government, local government, DHO/DPHOs and health facilities of flood prone/affected districts for effective management of nutrition information under humanitarian response and then it’s reporting to Nutrition Cluster/ Family Welfare Division, MoSD, Provincial Health Directorate, PHEOC and UNICEF.
Task 5: Provide technical support throughout all stages of programming processes by preparing materials/documentations.
Task 6: Identify, capture, synthesize and share lessons learned for knowledge development & sharing and to build the capacity of stakeholders.
Task 7: Prepare best case/practices documentation of nutrition in humanitarian preparedness and response actions.
The Consultant based in Kathmandu will work under the supervision of the Emergency Nutrition Specialist and for Consultants based in Provinces will work under the supervision of Nutrition Officers of UNICEF Field Office to support the emergency situation.
Qualification and competencies
- Advanced university degree in Nutrition or Public Health
- Minimum 2 years of experience in nutrition related programmes
- Experience of working with or in partnership with MoHP and its functionaries
- Experience of working in multi-cultural and multi-sectoral environment
- Knowledge, skill and experience of working in Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition, Micronutrient Supplementation, Behaviour Change Communication and Management of Severe Acute Malnutrition will be and added advantage
- Work experience in humanitarian context will be an asset
- Strong organizational and logistics skills
- Well verged in Micro-soft package (Window, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Good analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy
- Good data analysis and data management skill
- Fluency in English
