Call for Qualified Consultants

Strengthening Systems for Better Health (SSBH) is looking for qualified consultants.
The Activity’s field-based staff members are currently conducting comprehensive, consultative Health Systems and Capacity Assessments, covering all 105 municipalities in the Activity’s geographic target area.  Given the time, effort and human resources required to complete the assessments – and in particular, to cover all health facilities in each of the municipalities – the Activity has identified the need to deploy temporary consultants to work in collaboration with field staff to complete the assessments across the entire target geography. The Activity intends to recruit and deploy nine (9) clinical consultants and five (5) public health/health systems consultants to undertake this work.

Duration of Assignment: Up to three months (90 days) from date of hire

Locations: Karnali Province (Salyan, Kalikot, Surkhet and Dailekh Districts) and Province 5 (Banke, Bardiya and Dang Districts) 

Desired start date: No later than March 15, 2019

We are looking for qualified individuals to work directly with Activity field-based Technical Officers in assigned geographic clusters and, using the tools and process for the Health Systems and Capacity Assessments developed by the Activity, carry out the following tasks: 

  • Complete Health Systems and Capacity Assessments in selected municipalities, per field activity plans developed under the supervision of the Activity provincial team. 
  • As part of municipal assessments, travel to health facilities and complete readiness and quality assessments; debrief findings with facility staff.
  • Consolidate findings from municipal and facility level assessment tools and prepare for debriefing; support full debriefing sessions at municipal headquarters for elected officials and administrative staff, Health Coordinators, facility in-charges and other health sector stakeholders, as appropriate.
  • Support entry of data from Health Systems and Capacity Assessments into the Activity’s Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning database.
  • Undertake other related tasks as delegated by Activity management or field staff. 

Required Qualifications and Experience 

Clinical consultants (9)

  • Bachelor’s in Nursing, BSc in Nursing or Staff Nurse with SBA training; experience in providing MNCH/FP services
  • At least three (3) years of experience, preferably working in rural or remote area 
  • Experience in undertaking quality or readiness assessments in facilities is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills; good team player 
  • Excellent spoken and written Nepali; working knowledge of English
  • Basic computer skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel, walk and stay in remote areas
  • Preference will be given to qualified candidates from Karnali Province and Banke, Bardiya, and Dang Districts. 

Health systems/health information consultants (5)

  • Bachelor’s in Public Health or Health Administration (minimum); Master’s in Public Health or Health Administration (preferred)
  • At least three (3) years of experience, preferably working in a remote or rural area
  • Excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills; good team player 
  • Excellent spoken and written Nepali; working knowledge of English
  • Willingness and ability to travel, walk and stay in remote areas
  • Preference will be given to qualified candidates from Karnali Province and Banke, Bardiya, and Dang Districts.
